Confronting Anti-Black Racism and Our Colonial Past

In order to combat anti-black racism and deal with the colonial past locally, this motion (NR.283) calls on the magistrate to:

– identify suitable places and formats to deal with Germany’s colonial history. In particular, the genocide of the Herero and Nama in “German Southwest Africa”, which in 2024 will be 120 years ago. This part of our history should be dealt with in public spaces and in youth education.

– to list square and street names with reference to colonialism in order to enable a critical visualisation and education through plaques, QR codes or the like and, in particularly drastic cases, consider renaming them. Furthermore, the City Council recognises the N-word and the M-word as racist, discriminatory and condemnable.

Volt Frankfurt: the political party

Volt Frankfurt is part of Volt Europe, the first party that is the same all over Europe. In Frankfurt, at the heart of Europe, we fight for a progressive, sustainable and united EU. We work according to the motto: Think global, act local.

Nearly one million people live and work in Frankfurt. The challanges we face are shared with over 100 Million people in metropolies all over europe. Volt stands for the urban living of tomorrow, using progressive and pragmatic solutions.

We want to implement concepts that were already proven successful in other european cities. Be it lowering rents like Vienna, cycling like in Copenhagen or digital gouvernment services like Estland: we want to solve Problems, instead of just pushing them to the next election cycle.
